Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – practical, evidence-based support for lasting change

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective, evidence-based approach that helps you explore how your thoughts, emotions and behaviors are all connected. In CBT, the goal is to identify the unhelpful thinking patterns and habits that are keeping you feeling stuck, overwhelmed or anxious and gradually replace them with healthier alternatives.

Rather than endlessly focussing on the past, the main focus of CBT is to look at what is happening in your life right now and then give you practical, research-backed tools that you can use both in and outside of your therapy sessions. Over time, this can help to greatly reduce your anxiety, improve your mood and make daily challenges that currently feel daunting feel much more manageable.

What you can expect from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in San Diego

HOW THIS WORKS

To begin with, we’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, explore your current challenges and set goals for what you’d like to change. Together, we’ll identify which thoughts, feelings and behaviors are most important to focus on so you have a clear picture of what to expect moving forward.

In sessions, we’ll explore how your thoughts, emotions and actions are connected. You’ll begin to notice patterns that may be unhelpful and we’ll start practicing new ways of thinking and responding that support your goals. You’ll also learn practical tools and coping strategies to use outside of sessions. Between sessions, you may complete exercises or reflections to help apply what you’re learning in real-life situations.

Most people begin to see meaningful change within 5-20 sessions, depending on your needs. We’ll consistently track your progress and adjust your plan as needed, ensuring that therapy is tailored to you and doesn’t keep you in treatment longer than necessary.

  • Dana is an amazing therapist that helped me work through anxiety that I have had most of my life. She listened, gave practical tips and strategies and most importantly was able to validate how I was feeling and encouraged me to accept this part of me that I have been struggling with for so long. Highly recommend her!!!
